Correct answer: 30 business days, with a possible 15-business-day extension if the borrower is notified

The servicer must respond within 30 BUSINESS DAYS. This can be extended by 15 additional business days (total 45) IF the servicer notifies the borrower of the extension WITHIN the original 30-day period and explains the reason for the delay. The response must be substantive — it must provide the information requested or explain why it's unavailable. Simply sending another acknowledgment does NOT satisfy the response requirement.
